THE PLOT

The story revolves around the miserable life of women and opens up with statistics collected from different sources on the web and how the victim is always blamed for the act.

The chapter of Culprit List develops an interesting and readable copy as it in comprised of mindless statements made by politicians in command and administrators about women being the exclusive reason for being raped.“Crime against women is a highly stigmatized issue as society often blames women for the violence that they experience.”

WRITING STYLE

The author, Rohit Kumar has beautifully woven the statistics of rapes in various states around. The fact that the patriarchal make-up of Indian society and the familiarity of the executor of the misdeed to the fatality as the main reasons for the rape, across the nation.

The author has showcased India, which is deeply rooted social discrimination against women. The rule of law in India, which loose and government and lack in its management skills, shedding their responsibility of tackling these cases.

According to the statistics, more than 50% of rape cases were not reported by the victim fearing the shame that follows and unfortunately  the ones who report the FIR,  have to undergo through the procedures that follow which are even more embarrassing and distressing for the victim. Then, he brings in another shocking reality of India that 45 women were raped by police while in custody. On top of it,  after going all the hurdles , the victim has to face long duration of trials and many cases are often dropped long before all the proofs are heeded and judgement is provided. This clearly shows that this slow system has failed sadly to protect Indian women.
